How Much Does Photo Retouching Cost in 2026? A Per-Image Price Guide

Retouching prices run from a few cents to hundreds of dollars per image. Here is what drives the difference, what to ask before you order, and how to estimate your own budget.

How Much Does Photo Retouching Cost in 2026? A Per-Image Price Guide

Why prices vary so much

If you search for a retoucher, you will see offers from a few cents per image to several hundred dollars. Both can be honest. The difference is mostly time and skill.

A quick cleanup of a snapshot can take a few minutes. Natural skin retouching on a beauty close-up, with every pore kept, can take an hour or more. A product with curved glass, a logo and a reflection problem can take longer still.

Four things drive the price: the type of work (skin, product, apparel, composite), the time each image needs, the experience of the person doing it, and what you get at the end (revisions, file formats, layered files, turnaround).

The three price bands

Published estimates from retouching vendors and photography blogs fall into three rough bands. Treat the numbers as indications, not rules, because every source defines the work differently.

⚠️
A very low price is not a bargain if you pay twice: once for the cheap edit, and again to have it redone.
BandTypical price per imageWhat you usually get
Entry levelAbout $0.25 to $10Fast cleanup, often with filters or presets. Quality depends heavily on the seller, and skin can come back flat or smoothed.
AdvancedAbout $25 to $100Hand retouching of skin or product, with natural texture kept and a defined number of revisions.
High-end editorialAbout $100 to $500 and upMagazine or campaign level, often with composites, long sessions per image and a senior retoucher.

What LightHouse Retouch charges

Our starting prices are per image: from $50 for beauty and portrait retouching, and from $40 for fashion, lifestyle and family photos. Commercial, product and jewelry projects are quoted individually, because a white-background packshot and a complex campaign image are very different jobs.

RAW processing and color grading are included. Standard delivery is a print-ready TIFF plus an sRGB JPEG for the web. Revisions are included: 3 rounds on the $50 work and 2 rounds on the $40 work.

A few things cost extra and are always quoted upfront: rush delivery (+50%), working layered PSD or TIFF files (+50%) and a signed NDA (+10%). You see the final price in your personal quote, within 12 hours, before you pay.

Questions to ask before you pay

Most surprises come from details nobody asked about. Before you order from anyone, get a clear answer to these questions.

How many revisions are included, and what counts as a revision? What file formats do I get back? Is RAW development included? Is there a rush fee, a minimum order or a fee for layered files? Who owns the final files? What happens to my photos after the job?

A good retoucher answers these in one message. If the answers are vague, treat that as information.

💡
Ask for a quote on two or three of your own photos instead of a price list. It shows you the real price and the real quality at the same time.

How to estimate your own project

The basic formula is simple: number of images times the per-image price, plus any add-ons. For example, 20 portraits at $50 come to $1,000. If you need them rushed, the +50% rush fee brings that to $1,500. This is an illustration, not a quote.

For commercial work, give the retoucher the facts that change the price: how many images, what the products are, whether you need cutouts, shadows or compositing, and what the images will be used for. The more detail you share, the more accurate the quote.
